R. Yitzhak of Vorki was asked: Why on the Day of Atonement is the confession of sins arranged in alphabetical order? He replied: If it were otherwise we should not know when to stop beating our breasts. For there is no end to sin, and no end to the awareness of sin, but there is an end to the alphabet.
It is better to have one bird in a cage than a hundred in the air.
If you don't run so far, the way back will be shorter.
A person should always consider himself to be half wicked and half righteous. If he did one mitzvah, praiseworthy is he, for he tipped himself toward the side of righteousness. If he sinned, woe is to him, for he tipped himself toward the side of guilt.
