A person should always engage in Torah and mitzvot before he dies; once he is dead he is idle from Torah and mitzvot and unable to praise G‑d.

Time is deceptive; it lifts up anything light, and sets down anything heavy.

Do not overburden them (children). Teach quietly and gently, and give them pennies, for study cannot penetrate the mind unless pursued with tranquility and pleasure.

The world is like a person drinking salt water. One imagines that he is quenching his thirst, yet becomes more thirsty. No man dies having fulfilled even half of his desires.

Every instant a person remains silent, one merits reward beyond the comprehension of even the angels.
