A chassid gave a note of request to his Rabbi. He had written to ask G-d's help in breaking his evil impulse. The Rabbi replied: You want to break impulses? You will break your back and your hip, yet you will not break an impulse. But if you pray and learn and work in all seriousness, the evil in your impulses will vanish of itself.
The essence of Teshuva is to strengthen yourself and pick yourself up. Don't engage in self-pity - keep growing.
